Commission Vice-Chair

Carol Soustek was selected by the City Commission to fill the unexpired term of former Commissioner David Zaccagnino at the City Commission's November 25, 2014 meeting. She was then re-elected to serve as City Commissioner for  additional two-year terms in November 2015,  2017, 2019, 2021 and again in 2023.  Her new term will expire November 2025.   She was appointed to serve as Commission Liaison for the Island Congestion Committee and The Center in 2014.  In 2016 she was appointed to serve as Liaison for The Center, Code Compliance, and the Planning Commission.  Commissioner Soustek was elected  by the Commission to serve as the Commission's Vice-Chair in 2019, 2020 and in 2023.  

In 2021 and again in 2022, Commissioner Soustek was elected by the Commission to serve as Commission Chair/Vice-Mayor.   Currently serving as Commission Vice-Chair, Commissioner Soustek's currently serves as liaison for Code Compliance, Grassy Point Preserve, Planning Commission, and the Recreation, Beautification, and Parks.

Commissioner Soustek attended Hillsborough Community College majoring in computers and accounting.  She obtained additional courses in osi and Pascal programming languages.

Commissioner Soustek worked in the business communities of Tampa and Bradenton for 54 years.   Prior to her 2006 retirement, she worked as a corporate accountant, and loved being called a 'bean counter.

Commissioner Soustek has served as a member and volunteer for over 24 years. Her involvement includes the Anna Maria Turtle & Shorebirds Watch; longtime member of S.A.M. (Serving Anna Maria) where she served as Treasurer and current Vice-President; member of the citizen group working for Grassy Point; Friends of the Library member; Longbar Point opposition group; Preserve our waterline road group; hands across the gulf; home rule petitioning; beach clean-up; and seven shores at Perico Island. Prior to taking office, Commissioner Soustek was appointed in 2013 to serve on the City's Island Congestion Committee where she served as Chair.

An avid reader and gardener who loves to remodel, fix her houses, fish, walk, and bicycle, Commissioner Soustek is a proud mother of two daughters who are both third generation Floridians.
